Happy Friday, Style Mavens! Or should I say, Happy BeyDay? Because if you haven’t heard, her visual for Black is King dropped this morning and it is FIRE. So I could not pass up this opportunity to highlight my favorite part of this visual album, the looks duh! The mastermind behind Black is King looks is the style goddess, Zerina Akers. We all remember seeing Beyonce’s beautiful pictures with her newborn babies Rumi and Sir wearing a robe from Italian menswear brand Palomo Spain, or how about just about any look from Chloe x Halle, and we can’t forget to mention her work with Yara Shahidi and Neicey Nash as well. Looking at Zerina’s social media, you can see that she has been working with Beyoncé for a while now, even before the Formation Tour.
It all started when she was in school pursuing a degree in fashion merchandising with a minor in marketing from L.I.M, stated in her interview with fashionista.com. She interned with W Magazine, Women’s Wear Daily, and Harper’s Bazar (talk about a working girl). The dope part about Zerina Akers is her ability to be a stylist and a marketer, which I think plays a huge part in her eye for color and pattern as well as her gift to bring the individual out through clothing. With that being said, this week’s Top Five Friday’s post is dedicated to Zerina Akers and her work with Black is King because it is a truly magical experience.

Find Your Way Back
Watching this reminded me of what it is like learning about your history and being proud of where you come from. This visual album was The Wiz, Coming to America, The Lion King, black af, rich af, cultural af and most importantly a fairytale! The use of clothing added such a luxurious and whimsical element to Black is King. Zerina Akers’ growth into costume designing is impeccable! Check out her Instagram: @zerinaakers and definitely don’t forget to follow @rowaseat1. Ciao, Bellas!
