Finding your passion. Studying the industry. Being consistent. Interning and Networking. These are crucial key components to climbing the ladder as an entrepreneur… Fashion stylist TAMALA CLARICE is very familiar with putting in the necessary hours and sharpening her skills daily.
Post graduating from Jackson State University (My fellow JSU Family), TAMALA CLARICE headed West to heighten her chances in the fashion industry by attending the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM). Her hustle as a fashion student pushed her through doors that landed her internships and experiences with celebrity stylist J. Bolin, Jessica Pastor, and Eric Burns then she became the stylist assistant for Shateria Moragne-EL of Frontrow.
It’s always a beautiful thing to see another woman of color breaking through Fashion and the moment I was introduced to the accomplishments of TAMALA CLARICE I contacted her immediately via social media and the rest is just the beginning. Check out the Row A Seat 1 x TAMALA CLARICE interview below.
When did you fall in love with fashion?
I fell in love with fashion during my sophomore year of college, while at the time I was obtaining a dance background as well.
My personal style is dope because… I am very versatile. I don’t have just one particular style. One minute I’m in streetwear, the next I’m chic and tailored, on to being preppy, sexy and sophisticated. You just never know.
Name some designers you absolutely love. Why?
I am absolutely a fan of Gucci and Christian Siriano. Although both are quite different, I love the luxury statements and ready to wear collections that stand out aside from the rest of the designers.
Explain the genesis of your career. How will your legacy help the youth?
My career plays a huge part in inspiring other women to be comfortable in their own skin no matter what. My legacy is to help every individual to understand that you are beautiful no matter what color or size you are. The wardrobe is an everyday essential to a first impression, flaunt it and take advantage of it.
