Imagine your ‘break into fashion’ moment being on the cover of Vogue Italia shot by Steven Meisel and topped off with a six-page spread… Can we say insane?

He has the avant-garde style of a captured “Street Style” veteran taken by Tommy Ton mixed with a contagious personality and a luxury eyewear line that sent the fashion industry up in a frenzy – it’s no question to why Glamour magazine named Stevie Boi the next “Style Icon.”

If seven is the lucky number then Stevie Boi is a good luck charm for sure. As the founder of SBShades, Boi started designing his eyewear in 2007 and what a success it’s been, now fast forward seven years later he has created four luxury eyewear collections with countless magazine features and one heck of a celebrity catalogue including Lady GaGa, Rihanna and Beyonce just in case you were unaware!

And as September approaches, Stevie Boi is teaming up again with fashion designer Richie Rich during New York Fashion Week. The show will feature Stevie Boi’s latest collection entitled, X2SEA, which was inspired by his recent travels to St. Thomas – Virgin Islands. According to Boi, the luxury unisex collection reminds him of the islands with the colorful prints and bright elaborate gemstones.

RowASeat1: When did you fall in love with fashion?

Stevie Boi: Funny story, when I was a kid living in Germany I was around a lot of Goth & Punk inspired fashions. I always found myself attracted to the Art of design, at one point I thought I was going to grow up and be an architect.

But, honestly I didn’t realize how much I was into fashion until I entered high school and realized that everyone around me sucked at dressing. So, I gradually started browsing through fashion magazines and hanging out with more stylish people.

RowASeat1: Who is Stevie Boi?

SB: Stevie Boi is a fashion designer, model, philanthropist and performing artist.

RowASeat1: Why fashion design?

SB: I was kind of forced into it, and in 2007 I was gaining a lot of popularity via Myspace and social media for my crazy outfits and music I created. By 2009, people started to ask me about what I was wearing and invited me to parties in NYC and Los Angeles, and at that time I decided to start a collection and sell it via social media and on my website.

RowASeat1: Tell me about your SBShades collection. What can your fans expect for fall?

SB: This fall will be colorful. I wanted to bring the feel of the sunny beaches into fall and winter this year. I want everyone to smile when they see my new eyewear collection entitled X2SEA.

RowASeat1: You’ve made some great moves and connects within the fashion industry so far, any advice on how to keep evolving to remain relevant as an artist?

SB: This is the best advice I can give anyone in any industry. SAVE YOUR DAMN MONEY!

RowASeat1: Name some designers you admire.

SB: These are the designers I admire: Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Anna Dello Russo, Michael Kuluva, Adolfo Sanchez and myself, of course.

RowASeat1: As a designer, share your first celebrity experience and how you knew this was meant for you.

SB: Well, to be honest I’ve been around them since I was 16 years of age. But, my first celeb experience (with my products) was Eva Marcille on the cover of Obvious magazine – it was such a dramatic moment for me! The first time I saw a star wearing my designs, (who I admire) was my good friend Michael Antonio.

RowASeat1: What’s next for Stevie Boi?

SB: At the moment I am preparing to get into movies and TV shows as an actor. I booked a couple movie gigs and TV shows so I am excited about that. In regards to my designing career it has gotten me so far and I continue to keep putting out new content and creating new products for my clients and customers. Also, preparing for my New York fashion week show in September… Super excited about that!
