Row A Seat 1: When did you fall in love with fashion?
Sheree Alexis: As a child, I’ve always been creative and exceptionally crafty. I could take the simplest pieces of fabric and transform it into a masterpiece of choice. In 2012, I started taking my craft seriously by becoming a professional wardrobe stylist, but I never thought about sewing until recently. I launched Imsewphisticated by Sheree Alexis, my brand of custom clothing and more.
Row A Seat 1: How were you inspired to become a part of fashion?
Sheree Alexis: It started off as a hobby making bowties for my son. My peers were so impressed they challenged me to make maxi skirts. I accepted the challenge and I’ve enjoyed the process so much that I desired to do this as a business.
Row A Seat 1: Explain your vision for the ideal Sheree Alexis consumer.
Sheree Alexis: My motto is ‘be bold be chic be you’ so when I am wearing my product I give a vintage twist yet conservative feel while making a statement that I am living in my truth. When my customer’s wear my designs, I want them to feel confident, beautiful, elevated and powerful. I envision my customers walking away from our exchange knowing that they bought a product with phenomenal value that is exclusive to their style and personality. I want them to look at me as a resource for bringing the vision of their ensemble to life. My relationship with my customers is bigger than an exchange of merchandise for currency, but a connection between my ideas and their fashion destiny.
Row A Seat 1: Tell me about the upcoming Sheree Alexis collection. What can we expect?
Sheree Alexis: As of now, I have an eyewear line that’s stylish and unique to the every day on the go woman. My frames are affordable and can accommodate any personality. Coming soon I will be releasing ponchos and high waist pants. The 70’s and 80’s were a groovy time and that’s what I plan to modernize. It’s funny because I had a conversation with my aunt and (she complimented my custom skirts.) She told me that was their style back in the day. With my brand, I would like to pay homage to the fashion of that time. I feel that the possibilities of what I am willing to include into my brand are endless and I can incorporate my fashion sense into any piece of artistic wear.
Row A Seat 1: (Finish this sentence) When I’m creating on the sewing machine…
Sheree Alexis: …the world stops (at least until one of my children needs my attention), but when I get behind the machine I am dedicated to whatever artistic detail/flow it takes to accomplish the final look for my customer.
Row A Seat 1: As a young, talented and creative designer; what has been the most challenging task for you as an entrepreneur? Any words of inspiration to the younger designers?
Row A Seat 1: My biggest challenge has been staying the course no matter how fearful I am of my imperfections. It’s so easy to compare yourself to your peers or even your mentors, but the beauty of it all is that we all fail on our way to success. It was always important for me not to be too hard on myself when things didn’t go as planned, but to keep the show rolling. I’m grateful for a passion and the support of loved ones to keep pushing through the tough times. So, to my junior designers looking to embark on this journey, remain hungry and never give up. Perseverance is key!
