NELLA NGINGO – Talk about enchanted beauty, Whew! I was first introduced to this gorgeous being by my friend and photographer Chris Dijksterhuis of Nether-Better & Chris Dijksterhuis Photography sometime last year and it was a no-brainer that she’d be a #FreshOffTheRunway feature.
If you take a look at either of her social media pages you’ll see she’s quite versatile, but I’m totally blown away by her natural beauty, Nella, the model is absolutely gorgeous. Recently she posted a video via Instagram captioned ‘The naked truth’ and after watching it more than 10 times I’m still trying to figure out what was she wiping off her face because at the end of the video she appeared as flawless as she did in the beginning… NELLA YOU TRICKED ME!
The Amsterdam-based model that’s been featured in Glamour, The Source and Huf magazine; several fashion campaigns, and runways from The Netherlands to Africa has graced the site of RowASeat1... Check out the interview below.
Nella Ngingo: When I moved to Amsterdam about five years ago.
RowASeat1: I Am…
Nella: I am very down to earth. I am a believer, open-minded and a fun person to be around – If I do say so myself.
RowASeat1: How did you get involved with modeling? Do you plan to move outside of The Netherlands to expand your career?
Nella: My best friend had a camera and I used to take high quality pictures with him for fun and used to post them online, then a few photographers asked to work with me. That’s when I started to take it a bit more serious.
The more pics I shot and uploaded online, the more requests I received from photographers, makeup artists and stylists. My network kept growing, people started to notice me, and eventually after being a freelance model for two years I was asked by a few agencies to join them, and my choice was Ego’s Models and I’ve been with them for a year now.
I have been planning to move to London for a while now, if everything works out I’ll be there by the end of this year… fingers crossed!
RowASeat1: Your looks are very versatile; can you describe your personal style?
RowASeat1: As a model, tell me about your favorite fashion project, so far.
Nella: I guess the road shows during fashion week, I love doing those they’re so much fun. We get picked up by men in suits, who drive nice cars and are traveling to different cities all over the country to walk for different designers on the streets, so basically everyone can come and enjoy the shows.
RowASeat1: Name 5 things you can’t live without.
Nella: I would have to say my belief, Social media, of course my phone, love and tea!
RowASeat1: Which designers do you love? Which models do you admire?
Nella: Oh, this is a hard one, so many designers I adore, but at this moment my favorite designers are Rick Owens, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Riccardo Tisci, Jean Paul Gaultier and Rei Kawakubo. Was that too many? (Laughs) I couldn’t chose.
As for models there’s also a list of models I look up to such as: Naomi Campbell (the Queen of course), Kate Moss, Liya Kebede, Chanel Iman, Selita Ebanks, Jourdan Dunn, Cara Delevingne and Eva Marcille.
RowASeat1: When I’m not modeling…
RowASeat1: In March (2014), Supermodel Chanel Iman discussed to Refinery29 the lack of diversity in The Fashion Industry, what are your thoughts on this subject?
Nella: I do agree, even now in 2014, there is still a lack of diversity in the industry. There IS progress that’s for sure, but it’s still a long way to go.
RowASeat1: What excites you most about being a model?
Nella: Camera flashing lights, they make me feel so alive. I also love that adrenaline rush I get every time I’m in the lineup backstage and the catwalk coach taps my shoulder as a sign to start walking, and I guess being able to play someone else every time I model. Like, I create this whole new persona in my head depending on the mood board and I get to play that, which never gets old!
